Today in my African American Studies course, my professor asked our class why we thought there was a lack of student activism compared to the Civil Rights Movement. I couldn't help but notice an ironic illustration of such a trend, sitting across the room from me: a girl was wearing the Urban Outfitters baseball tee with the phrase "Voting is for old people" emblazoned across it.

Elaine, you are right on. Plus, I was actually even thinking at first you were saying that there you were in class TALKING about action as opposed to TAKING action. For more info on taking matters of history into your own hands and not just accepting everything as 'the way it is,' see Walter Benjamin's "Theses on History."
