Subcultures

While blog surfing, I just discovered a blog run by "TASPers." A TASPer seems to be a gifted kid who was part of some program, but after reading this, I still don't quite understand what it's about. Oh well, gotta love these random subcultures one can discover only through web-surfing.

Hi, Elaine!
I was a TASPer at UMich. The basic idea was that, (from a pool of 900 applicants) after writing some essays and interviewing, a bunch of high school juniors (18 to each program) are sent to one of five programs. There were two groups at Cornell, one at UMich, one at WashU in St. Louis, and one at UT Austin. Each place had a different seminar. It's supposed to be an exercise in self-governance, I suppose. We spent six weeks over the summer living together in a house with two college students (factota) as supervision, taking class for three hours in the morning and then running free in the afternoon. We started a blog b/c we became pretty close, and we wanted to stay in touch when we redispersed throughout the world.

I don't know if you were really interested, but there it is...
