More Irksome Riders: In My Own Backyard

Oh, I also have to say that I'm reading about Sox v. Cubs fans according to CTA Tattler folks, and one guy has this to say:
My favorites: Northwestern kids and people from the northern burbs who gawk out the windows at Argyle, Berwyn, etc. and make comments about what a 'ghetto' the neighborhood is.
Sadly this person is RIGHT. So many Northwestern students have not the slightest clue what they're talking about when they say something is "ghetto." Fercryinoutloud, they think the El is "ghetto" when they're on the purple line. Plus, the average Northwestern student (excluding the ones from the city) know Chicago about as well as I know Swahili.

Also the folks on CTA Tattler are right concerning another fact: Cubs fans today S-U-C-K. Having been to a few games in the last two years and being able to recollect and compare them with games I went to in many years past, I can pretty soundly concur with the guy who says that Wrigleyville has become "the largest beer garden in the world."

Of course Wrigley is the world's largest beer garden. Cubs games, especially when the team isn't very good, are social events more so than other stadiums. People come for the "atmosphere." I always run into so many people I know at Cubs' games that the game itself becomes secondary (probably tertiary:conversation, beer, game). But also, it's always been a beer garden, I just never really noticed it until I got to high school.

Nah, I think it's changed. Part of it is that "Wrigleyville" has changed too. I'm not saying it's not fun to go to a game, but some Cubs fans are so obnoxious, especially when you have to deal with them on the train.

Yeah, but Nationals' fans are obnoxious too (but then again so are most DC residents). "Wrigleyville" used to be really shady 25 years ago or so, and it's been "yuppified." Of course there are negative aspects to yuppification, but overall it makes the neighborhood nicer, even if the people become more annoying. Maybe I'll get a chance to see for myself this weekend when I'm back at home.

Eh, I think it's possible to have a nice neighborhood without loud people; I have no problem with people going out and having a good time or going to a Cubs game and having a good time, I just get annoyed when a group of drunk people are loud and obnoxious. How long wll you be in Chicago?

Tomorrow til Tuesday.

I just expect volume and obnoxiousness from groups of drunk people. Nevertheless, it's still annoying.

I guess drunk baseball fans are most annoying when on a train at 5:30 in the afternoon. It's all about context.

Feel free to give me a call or IM or email if you have any time during your weekend visit, though I undestand if you're probably busy.
